Elegant Women's Champagne Brunch honors Ladies in Leadership:

34.jpg

Over one hundred women filled the Chabad of Palm Beach Gardens' for it's annual Champagne Brunch on Sunday, January 16. The brunch aims to educate and empower the Jewish woman of today and to give her the tools to navigate her role in this modern age. The morning paid tribute and honored two very special women from the community, Shelly Paolercio and Felice Zachary, who work tirelessly and selflessly for others. Rebbetzin Chana Vigler spoke of the incredible strength women possess as present day leaders.

The highlight was the keynote speaker, Lieutenant Commander Laurie Lans, a woman on active duty in the U.S. Navy. She gave a riveting talk that was heartfelt, yet humorous about her experiences as an observant Jew in Iraq and Afghanistan. In fact, she believes that she is the only Rebbetzin ever to be deployed to Iraq on active duty. It was fascinating to hear about life on the battlefield and how all types of people from all walks of life, stand for each other, assist each other and care for each other so many miles from home was truly inspiring. It was an elegant affair with an array of mimosas, pastries and a beautiful buffet lunch. It was perfect way to celebrate the Jewish woman!

Sold at Sotheby's: One night of authentic Talmud learning

20180116_200404.jpg

In 1984, sixty one precious Jewish manuscripts sold in Sotheby's auction house in New York for $1.8 Million. The case drew the attention of NY Attorney General Bob Abrams. He accused Sotheby's of selling books stolen from a Berlin Jewish institution during the Holocaust. Sotheby's claimed that they were rescued by a Jewish professor who was gifted the books by the institution in reward for his heroic efforts in saving them. Who do we believe?

Though this fascinating case was eventually settled in New York legal system, this class allowed students to judge it from a Talmudic perspective. At this unique course presented by the Chabad of Palm Beach Gardens, students pored over Talmudic legal texts and debated the the application of the ancient law to this modern day case. The discussion was exhilarating and intellectually stimulating as original ideas and perspectives were shared, even from people  who had never studied Talmud before, allowing them a glimpse in the depth and profundity of the Talmud.

JLI: The Art of Communication

6 week course starting Tuesday, January 30th at the Mandel JCC

Mental Health Professionals and medical doctors can earn up to 15 CEU credits!

Can you express yourself effectively in 140 characters or less? Should you?Screen Shot 2017-12-29 at 2.20.27 PM.png

The rise of the internet, mobile phones, and social media has completely changed the way we relate, interact, and communicate with one another—and it’s high time we reclaim this lost art.

In Jewish philosophy, communication is more than just a tool: it is who we are. Humans are defined as communicative beings with a communicative soul, and aligning ourselves with this soul is our raison d’être.

In Communication: Its Art and Soul, we contrast Jewish thought with scientific discovery to unearth the essence of communication and how to utilize its powers to better ourselves, our relationships, and all of society

Fee $89
